FAIRTRADE FORTNIGHT 2021 IN THE SWANSEA BAY REGION Current restrictions do not allow us to hold physical events this year but there are plenty of online activities to join in so we can learn more about and celebrate fair trade. Here are just some of the events organised by local Fairtrade groups, Fair Trade Wales and the Fairtrade Foundation. Please join us for our main regional event on Thursday 4th March.
Fairtrade Chocolate and Tahini Cake Recipe Video Tue 23rd February (video launched online) Welsh author and cook, Sarah Philpot, will show us how to make a delicious cake using lots of Fairtrade ingredients to enjoy with Fairtrade tea, coffee or your favourite tipple. Conversation with Palestinian Farmer Haj Rafeeq Huseein Thu 25th February, 12noon (via Zoom) Olive oil suppliers, Zaytoun, have organised an online conversation with a farmer from the Palestinian village of Ti'innik on the importance of Fairtrade to his community, the challenges of farming under occupation and the uncertainties of climate change. Climate Change Coffee Morning with Jenipher Sat 27th February, 11.00am–12noon (via Zoom) Join Fair Trade Wales for a chat about climate change with a video message from Jenipher, a Fairtrade coffee farmer in Uganda. We’ll learn about how climate change is affecting crops and farmers and how buying Fairtrade can make a difference. Jenipher’s Coffi is a new product made to Fairtrade and Organic standards by farmers on the slopes of Mt Elgon in Uganda and roasted by hand in Wales. Climate Justice for a Fairer World A panel discussion on tackling climate change & inequality Thu 4th March, 7.00-8.30pm (via Zoom) We have brought together a wealth of expertise on climate, fair trade, education and community action to share their views and experience on climate justice, both globally and locally. Panellists include former minister Jane Davidson, top climate expert Paul Allen, Traidcraft CEO Robin Roth, a young activist from Size of Wales and a fair trade producer. Fairtrade Pops Sat 6th March, 10.30-11.00am (via Zoom) Join Swansea-based PopCycle to make Fairtrade Banana Ice Lollies. You can watch or join in and those that register will be sent notes on what will be needed to prepare the lollies. This session will be suitable for children with adult supervision. Online Fairtrade Cocktail Class Sat 6th March, 7.30-8.30pm (via Zoom) Join Hoogah Cafe and Bar for a fun cocktail demonstration session using Fairtrade spirits. Angie will host an introduction to fair trade bartending, come along and learn about some great products on the market and boost your cocktail knowledge along the way! Suitable for over 18s only.
